Tignes has a lively summer season, due to the wide range of activites and events on offer. Last year it was host to the Tour de France, Beach Soccer and Beach Volleyball competitions, and the French football team come here to train at altitude. There is also a wine festival every August.

Skiing and Boarding:

The Grande Motte glacier opens for summer skiing and boarding on the 21st of June until the 31st of August, and then reopens near the end of September until the beginning of the winter season. It is one of the largest and most popular summer ski areas in Europe. The summer area has 16 lifts and more than 20km of pistes, and of course a snowpark.

Mountain Biking:

The resort is also becoming well known for the rapidly developing mountain biking trails. There are 6 downhill trails - 4 from the top of the Aeroski gondola and 2 from the top of the Palafour, and 70km of endurance trails. New for this year is a run from the glacier down to Val Claret. The is also a bike park, 4 cross, skate park and water jump.
A lift pass for the mountain bike area costs €16.50 a day or €41.50 for 6 days.

Golf:

Tignes also boasts the highest golf course in Europe, as well as mini and mid golf.

Water Sports:

In the summer there are plenty of activities on the Lake in Tignes le Lac. You can hire canoes, kayaks, sailing dinghies and even pedalos, there is also a designated fishing area. There is a water jump which can be done on skis, snowboards or bikes. Trips can be arranged to nearby rivers for canyoning, white water swimming and rafting.

Other Outdoor Activities:

Tignes is ideally situated for a number of other mountain activites; hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, via ferrata, a high ropes course. You can also try horseriding, paragliding, quad biking, rifle shooting and archery.

Other Sports:

In the summer there are lots of other sports on offer in Tignes; tennis, football, squash, trampolining. The Lagon has 3 swimming pools, a gym and a spa area.
