The Environment and Us:
Locally:
Avoriaz is actively seeking to reduce the impact of the town on the locality. You can find out more on the following site, www.avoriaz.com/corner-sustainable-development. There is a comprehensive summary in english on the ski-club of great britain website.
Les Gets has solar panels on many of the chairlifts and Morzine provides incentives for new buildings to be eco friendly.
Travel:
Where possible we will always arrange your transfers to coincide with other travellers, reducing the number of vehicles on the roads. All our transfers are handled by ski-lifts and booked as 'shared' transfers.
For the rest of your journey, there is a very easy to use site, climate care where you can calculate and offset your carbon footprint by the year, or by a single journey. (for a single car journey just stick the milage in the annual calculator....)
We recommend Easyjet for flights. As well as being cheap and convenient with an extensive range of flights to Geneva, they have a comprehensive environmental programme which you can read about on their site. We have also found the Easyjet staff at Geneva, Newcastle and Bristol very friendly and helpful - we can't comment on other airports as we haven't used them.
In resort there is an extensive 'free' ski bus system which will whisk you off to any of the five main uplifts. We would encourage you to use this service, which is actually paid for with the 'taxe sejour', wherever possible rather than your car if you bring one.
Laundry:
All our laundry is done in house, so you can be sure that we always follow these guidelines.
- Always wash a full load
- use ecological soaps and bleach alternatives
- use the lowest effective temperature
We also choose eco friendly and chemical free products such as microfibre cleaning cloths throughout all our properties.
We would also encourage you to economise with your water use during your stay - in spite of the amount of rain and snowfall in the Alps - there is an ever increasing shortage of water. We try to ensure that all properties have showers fitted where possible.
Chalet Le Timeris:
We provide economical heaters where possible and choose energy saving light bulbs when we replace them. Plastics, glass and cardboard among other things can all be dumped in the recycling bins around town - the nearest ones are conveniently over the road!
The local supermarkets have an ever increasing range of both organic, fair trade, and local products and we regularly call in to the organic supermarket in Thonon when we are passing.
The Mountains:
We love the mountain and expect you do too - or you wouldn't be here! Let's do our best to keep it that way and take all our rubbish home (including cigarette butts).
